  • Anesthesia

    Miniscrews are placed using local anesthesia (a “shot”) on the roof of the mouth. The bone itself has little innervation and will not be in “pain” afterwards, however since the miniscrews enter the bone by passing through the gum tissue, you will feel the pain in the gum tissue for approximately 2 days afterwards. This pain can be managed with an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen. We also recommend salt water rinses.

  • Logistics

    Appointments for the insertion and for the final removal generally have to be scheduled between 11AM to 2PM. Although it is a minor surgical procedure, the doctor allocates special time during this period of the day because it is technique sensitive and requires 60-90 minutes of chairtime.

  • Are they any risks?
